Have you ever wanted to embed specific twitter quotes in your blog posts?
With the new WP Quote Tweets plugin by Tanin Ehrami you can! The WordPress WP Quote Tweets Plugin by Tanin Ehrami makes it possible to embed specific twitter status updates in your WordPress blog via shortcodes. Like this:
2009 Knysna Oyster Festival opens tonight! See you in Knysna…www.oysterfestival.co.za
— KnysnaOysterFestival (@oysterfestival) July 1, 2009
Nice, huh? But the above example is now done using the auto-embed features built-into WordPress since version 3.4.1 – see the updates below for more info and link to the release notes.
The official line from the plugin author is:
Allows authors to quote Twitter updates in posts or pages using a simple shortcode. {quotetweet tweetid=123456789}. The tweetid can be found in the URL of the tweet that is to be quoted.
Why would you embed Tweets in your blog posts?
Embedding specific Twitter quotes in your blog posts could be a great way to socialize content and really integrate it with the social web. Right off the top of my head I can think of a few uses, some of which I hope to highlight in successive blog posts.
The WP Quote Tweets plugin is available for download at WP Codex or you can Visit the plugin site.
Update: The new version of the WP Quote Tweets plugin and it now supports templates. PLease visit the plugin site for more info.
I’ll share another cool Twitter plugin for WordPress with you soon, it’s something called TweetSuite by Dan Zarrella and it puts major foot to ass in the WordPress Twitter plugins department.
Stay Tuned.
Updated: This auto-embed Feature is now built into in WordPress since version 3.4.1
The arrival of WordPress 3.4.1 brought with it some new features too, one of which is the ability to automatically embed media such as Flickr photos, YouTube videos or Twitter status updates directly simply by pasting the link into the blog post (you also need to have the auto-embed feature turned on in your WordPress Dashboard in the Media section). So if you were using a plugin to do the rendering before, you can switch out the status updates you’ve embedded and axe the plugin. This will reduce plugin bloat which often happens to WordPress sites. It’s also one less 3rd party plugin to worry about maintaining – Yay!

Ok, it ain’t so pretty, but a sprinkling of css work can sort that out.
Newest version supports templates so you can format it any way you like.
Thanks for the heads up on that one, that is fantastic news my good man. I also just spotted your post on the templating stuff, super cool.
After applying the update to the WP Quote Tweets plugin I can see that I have to dive in right away and tweak the css to suit. However, the new options are looking very nice indeed.
I recommend upgrading to the latest version (again). It has a few more templates and that CSS color issue should be bug fixed too.
It’s really a smashing piece of work, thanks.
